Breaking Ground with Jalie

Welcome to my stop on the Breaking Ground Tour hosted by Melissa Evans of Mahlica Designs.  If I’m you’re first stop on the tour let me tell you a little about it.  We were to choose an Indie pattern company new to us, choose a pattern, and sew it up.  We could have added to the ground breaking by choosing something we’ve never made before, or make something using a technique we’ve never made before.

I chose to make Jalie 2792.  My daughter has been in (gym)nastics since September and she LOVES it.  So much so we have to stop her from using any and everything as equipment.  I have heard nothing but good things about Jalie.  Majority of the time when people ask about athletic sewing patterns I always see a handful of comments recommending Jalie.

 

I have made swimwear for her in the past, and I also made her leotard for (gym)nastics, the pattern I used for that is a good pattern, but it’s a bathing suit/leotard. This is a true leotard (also referred to as a nastics by the 3 year old.).

 

 

A little about this pattern: there are 22 sizes included, 3 different views, but you can certainly mix and match, so your options in that regard are almost endless, and the directions and graphics are very clear and concise. The instructions and diagrams for measuring the body for the nastics (leotard)are great.  They take the trunk into account, which that other pattern didn’t do, which is very important.  Her chest and waist put her into size F, but her girth/trunk measured spot on size H.

I chose to make view A with the 3/4 sleeves.  I see why so many recommend Jalie’s patterns.  Everything goes together beautifully.  Once the longest part was over, for me that’s choosing the fabric, I sewed this new nastics (leotard) up in about an hour.  I loved the fit. Without her “I just had lunch belly” it fits perfectly.

 

She loves it and I love it. She announced to anyone that would listen that I made her a new nastics (leotard). I will now be one of those people singing Jalie’s praises from every rooftop.
