I can not believe that my baby boy is starting Kindergarten in 3 weeks.  THREE WEEKS ya’ll.  Facebook shows me his newborn pictures almost everyday.  I remember him being born like it was yesterday, I remember thinking to myself that I have so much time before he was 5. Let alone going to KINDERGARTEN.  Well folks, he was born yesterday and in 3 weeks he’s going to Kindergarten. KINDERGARTEN.

He did preschool and pre-K and I stayed up all night and made him a book bag.  He loved it and told everyone that I made it for him.  He carried that bag for 2 years.  So, I guess being that he’s going to KINDERGARTEN (I’m handling this well.) he needs a new bookbag.

I chose to make the (Not So) Tiny Explorer Backpack by Diedelbug Handmade.  If you visit Erin’s blog there are modifications to turn the Tiny Explorer into the Not So Tiny Explorer. I stuck with what I know.  His Tiny Explorer lasted him for 2 years. Even with all the wet glue that was constantly put in his bag, it lasted.  Maybe it was the glue that kept it together…

Anyway, I like how the Not So Tiny Explorer has the cool cargo pocket and the piping just adds a little extra.  For those of you that know me, you know that I am always proclaiming loudly to anyone that will listen that fabric glue is your friend.  Please, if you don’t have some go get some.  You can even use Elmer’s school glue sticks.  The glue made the piping 100,000 times easier to sew. It looks good, no? In addition to the cargo pocket, one of the modifications is to add height with a contrast panel.

My son picked out all of his fabric, and he thinks he likes Mario Bros. all on his own.  We’ll just let him think that.  I love how it turned out and he’s ready for KINDERGARTEN (I am not.)

Your backpack is amazing! Love the fabric and the piping. I know exactly how you feel about him starting Kindergarten, it was the same when my oldest started K last year. I blinked and suddenly she was 5! Thank you so much for being on our tour!
